CMMSA-Center of Modern Mathematical Sciences and their Application

Environmental Mathematics Unit

Overview

The mission of the unit is to provide a space for those interested in solving problems arising from environmental sources. The unit also promotes awareness of environmental issues and in particular the role that mathematics plays in analyzing such issues. The unit aims to provide a suitable research climate, promote mathematical analysis, and solve problems arising from environmental sources. Work to provide initiatives, solutions and consultations that are commensurate with the needs of the labor market and national plans and projects for a promising and prosperous future for future generations.

Meet our Team

Our Objectives

Advocacy

We will contribute to an awareness of our responsibility to address environmental issues and to utilize sound mathematical analysis to support such promotional activities. Such efforts will be focused on our own profession or institutions.

Education

We look to foster the inherent environmental interests of young people and to support efforts to bring sustainability and ethical reasoning into the mathematics curriculum at multiple levels.

Research

We will provide opportunities to engage in and discuss the mathematics arising from environmental issues. Since environmental issues are inherently interdisciplinary- lend themselves to team efforts- and offer an abundance of mathematical content at many levels, we support the opportunity to interact with specialists from other disciplines, including physical and social scientists and engineers that work to address these same issues.

ESTABLISH

Applying basic concepts and innovation in the field of environmental mathematics.

Apply

Applying basic concepts and innovation in the field of environmental mathematics.

Enrich

Enriching research and technical studies in the field of environmental mathematics.

Creativity

Creativity in applied, analytical and research skills in solving environmental problems.

Keep Up

Keep up with the tangible development in modern methods and technologies in assessing and managing environmental problems and confronting environmental challenges.

Our Duties

Sustainability

Work to ensure the sustainability of the environment by improving student learning, providing teaching resources, and organizing training courses, activities, and events.

National

Joining relevant national environmental projects such as the Saudi Green Initiative and the Aramco project to extract, use and store carbon.

International

Joining relevant regional and international environmental projects, such as the Global Carbon Project and the activities of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

Encouraging

Encouraging the formation of research groups and scientific publishing.

Stimulating

Stimulating and encouraging the use of mathematical applications in the field of environmental sciences and working to confront the challenges and obstacles that prevent this.

Research Approaches

Mathematics pervades every area of our modern world, bringing ever more sharply into focus the responsibilities placed on those who to teach it. Prominent among these is the challenge of developing an interdisciplinary approach, so that each professional group benefits from the expertise of others. Environmental Mathematics Unit (EMU) provides an environment for collaboration of researchers in Environmental mathematics to present, assimilate and eventually adapt environmental solution to everyday needs in schools, colleges, universities, industry, and commerce. EMU is especially interested in facilitating communication between researchers and practitioners, and contributions are welcome from researchers, lecturers, teachers, and users of Environmental mathematics at all levels regarding the unit scope. We are always delighted to receive the support from all stakeholders. Increasing use of technology is being made in the teaching, learning, assessment and presentation of environmental mathematics today, and original and interesting contributions in this rapidly developing area are especially welcome. Mathematical models arising from real situations, the use of computers, digital assistants and software, new teaching aids and techniques are also an important feature. Discussion is encouraged on methods of widening applications throughout science and technology and supporting the community in environmental problems solving.
